October 21–22, 2026
The fourth edition — now the Open Scientific Intelligence (OSI) Hackathon — runs Wednesday–Thursday, October 21–22, 2026, hybrid and worldwide. Teams start at their preferred local time on October 21, and every team worldwide submits by the same deadline: October 22, 7:00 PM CT (5:00 PM PT). Updates are announced in Slack first.
Kick-off, teaming, hacking begins
Teams can start at their preferred local time on October 21. The kick-off video is provided virtually. Some sites may run morning programming; virtual hub builders go straight to teaming and building.
Build day and final submissions
Focused development with mentors available on Slack and in Zoom. Project submissions are due by October 22, 7:00 PM CT (5:00 PM PT; 00:00 UTC Oct 23), worldwide.
Winners announced & virtual showcase
Judging wraps up, awards are announced, and featured projects are invited to present. Date to be announced.
What to Expect
Day 1: Getting Started
- Welcome & Networking: Watch the virtual kick-off video if you haven’t already. Meet fellow participants and organizers at local sites; virtual hub participants meet on Slack and Miro.
- Project Brainstorming: Explore ideas and form teams on site or virtually. This is a non-guided activity.
- Technical Setup: Make sure you have access to computational resources and data. Sign up for any provided credits before the event so setup doesn’t eat into build time.
- Mentorship: Connect with experienced researchers and industry professionals on Slack and Zoom. Mentors are available throughout the day.
Day 2: Development & Presentation
- Intensive Development: Focus time for building your project.
- Finalize Submissions: Complete and submit your work by October 22, 7:00 PM CT (5:00 PM PT). A submission is a social media post, which can include a video demo or presentation of your results (up to 4 minutes) and a write-up (up to 1 page).
After the Event
- Awards Ceremony: Judges score the projects, and outstanding contributions are recognized.
Time Zones
Teams start on October 21 at whatever local time suits them. The one fixed time is the submission deadline: October 22, 7:00 PM Central Time (CDT, UTC−5), which is 5:00 PM Pacific. In other time zones that is:
- UTC: 00:00, Oct 23
- Eastern (EDT): 8:00 PM, Oct 22
- Central European (CEST): 2:00 AM, Oct 23
- Sydney (AEDT): 11:00 AM, Oct 23
Local organizers will share any site-specific schedules.
